Alice J. (Buffham) Jarchow, "Susie", age 88, of Baldwin, Wis., died on Oct. 10 at the Westfields Hospital in New Richmond, Wis.

Alice J. (Buffham) Jarchow, "Susie", age 88, of Baldwin, Wis., died on Oct. 10 at the Westfields Hospital in New Richmond, Wis.

Susie was born on Oct. 28, 1922, to Bernice Buffham, in Windom, Minn. The oldest of two children, Susie grew up on a family farm in Clear Lake, Wis. She loved the farm life and helped with gardening, fieldwork, and milking the cows. While attending a dance, Susie was introduced to a young farmer named Harold Jarchow. The two dated for a time and were united in marriage in 1938 in Center City, Minn. The marriage would be blessed with three children, Alvina, Sandy and Christian. The newly-formed Jarchow family would settle on a farm in Cumberland, Wis., where they worked until the early '40s. Harold would take on a job as a milk hauler, and Susie began working at the Turtle Lake Bakery. The family moved to New Richmond where Susie worked as a waitress at “The Hotel.” She then went on to work for the New Richmond High School as a cook. In 1973 Harold passed away. Susie would remain in New Richmond and began working at Press On Manufacturing in Stillwater, Minn., as an assembly line worker. Years later, she would make her final move to the Baldwin area to remain close to her friends and family.

Susie was a hard-working and active woman. She loved gardening and canning vegetables and enjoyed sharing her homegrown produce with friends and family. She was an entertainer and always had the coffee pot on and baked goods ready for any visitors who happened to stop by. She also enjoyed trips to the family cabin in Cable, Wis., where she would pick berries, go for walks, and enjoy the nature. What made her time special was being able to share anything she did with her children and grandchildren.

Susie is survived by her friends and family. This includes her children Alvina (Earl) Thompson of Baldwin and Sandy Frink of Woodville, Wis.; grandchildren Tim Thompson of Baldwin, Lori Green of Milwaukee, Wis., Harold Frink of Sacramento, Calif., Susie (Chris) Smith of Modesto, Calif., Kelly Frink of Woodville, Christian Jarchow of Appleton, Wis., Missy (Keith) Via of Oak Grove, Minn., and Calvin Jarchow of Minnesota. She is further survived by 13 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Susie was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Buffham; husband, Harold; son Christian; grandchildren Lisa Poe, David Thompson; great-grandson Austin and brother, Louis.

A funeral celebration of life for Susie will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. Pastor Keith Anderson from Zion Lutheran Church of Woodville will be officiating. Burial will follow at the New Richmond Cemetery. A visitation for Susie will take place from 10:30 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home.

Services are in the care of the O'Connell Funeral Home - Baldwin Chapel, 715-684-3434.
