Beatryce "Bea" Sorum, age 88, residing at Golden Age Manor, Amery, passed away Dec. 25, Christmas Day, after a brief battle with congestive heart failure.
Beatryce "Bea" Sorum, age 88, residing at Golden Age Manor, Amery, passed away Dec. 25, Christmas Day, after a brief battle with congestive heart failure.
Beatryce, the daughter of Carl and Christine Thompson, was born Aug. 3, 1923, in the township of Arland, Barron County, Wis. Beatryce had one older sister, Gladys [Mrs. Delmar Gilbert (deceased)] and a younger sister, Audrey (Mrs. Floyd Bergman of Barron.) She married Kenneth Sorum on Nov. 12, 1943, and resided in the Township of Turtle Lake until selling the dairy farm and moving to New Richmond in 1975.
Beatryce enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and baking, especially Norwegian pastries and lefse. For a number of years Bea and her daughter operated a retail store, "The Sewing Bee," selling sewing and quilting supplies in Amery. For several years Bea also baked sandbakkels during the Christmas seasons which were sold by the Byerly's grocery chain in the Twin Cities. After selling her house, Beatryce lived in Sun Shine Court, New Richmond, and then nearly 5 years ago she moved to Golden Age Manor in Amery.
Beatryce is survived by eight children: Gale (Susan), Chippewa Falls; Marlene (Jim) Olson, Osceola; Gene (Wendy), Cameron, Wis.; Vicki (Bill) Johnson, Amery; Keith (Cindy), Clayton; Kenrod (Susan), New Richmond; Jill (Don) Larson, St. Croix Falls; Tom, New Richmond. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Audrey (Floyd) Bergman, Barron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth, in March of 1974; two sons, Gerry in May 2007 and Jimmy in November 1997. Two grandchildren also preceded her: Abigail, daughter of Gerry; and Monty, son of Gale; and one great-grandchild, Colin Ebsen, son of Stephenie (Jason) Ebsen.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Bakken-Young's Beebe Chapel in New Richmond. Visitation will also be Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in Independent Cemetery in Arland, Wis.

I will sure miss Bea's sweet smile! I had the pleasure of knowing her for the last year. She is sure special to me and I will miss her. She is now walking with the Lord and I praise Him for that!
