Ruby Arlene Frey, age 80, of Star Prairie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond, after a brief battle with cancer.
Ruby Arlene Frey, age 80, of Star Prairie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond, after a brief battle with cancer.
Ruby was born the daughter of Carl and Mildred (Johnson) Haroldson, on Aug. 26, 1931, in Star Prairie, Wis. She attended high school in New Richmond, where she met her future husband, Bert Frey. They were married on June 18, 1949, in Stillwater, Minn.
Ruby worked at various jobs in and around New Richmond and Star Prairie. She enjoyed embroidery, her flower gardens, and raising poodles. Spending time with her family was very important, whether camping, fishing, or at the holidays. In recent years, she enjoyed garage saling.
Ruby was thoughtful and kind and had a great sense of humor right up to the end. Her faith afforded her peace even in the midst of her illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mildred Haroldson; brother, Robert Haroldson; sister, Janice Grotenhuis.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Bert Frey; children, Cheryl (Howard) Johnston, Brent (Diane) Frey; grandchildren, Bryan (Erin) Johnston, Kevin (Melinda) Johnston, Laura (Michael) Deems, Luke (Amanda) Frey, Lacy ( Brent) Hassler, Melanie (Brandon) Beckstrom, Megan (Ben) Sackmann; great-grandchildren, Liam Johnston, Stella Johnston, Annalea, Ella and Samuel Deems, Shammah Hassler; siblings, Lloyd (Dalores) Haroldson, Warren (Carol) Haroldson, Margie Phillips; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Star Prairie. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home Beebe Chapel in New Richmond and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Star Prairie.
