Shirley May Christopherson passed away peacefully on Sept. 13 surrounded by family at the Deerfield Gables.

She was born and raised in Hudson, Wis., graduated from Hudson High, where she lived until she met her husband, Gary Ray Christopherson. They were married on Sept. 21, 1955, and moved to New Richmond. Shirley worked at various jobs prior to starting her career at Andersen Windows. She worked at Andersen Windows for many years. When she first started working there, she worked in the factory where she was known as “Red.” Many years of working three shifts in the really hot summers and long rides to work in the bad weather to work, yet she never complained. Later, she transferred to the office where she only worked days and it was air-conditioned. Shirley made many lifelong friends there and was loved by all.

When grandchildren came into her life, she was so excited. She loved to have sleepovers with them and take them places. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She would just light up when she would see them.

Outside of work, Shirley loved to bowl. She would bowl every chance she could. The bowling trips with her sister-in-law, sister, and niece were the highlights. Many great times, memories, and laughs were had by all of them.

Shirley spent that last few years of her life at the Deerfield. She made so many wonderful friends in the few years that she was there. She loved spending time with her friends there, talking and playing cards. She could not say enough wonderful things about the staff and the residents; they were like a family to her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gary R. Christopherson; mother, Nelle Johnston; father, James Johnston; brothers James Johnston and Clinton Johnston.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Martie, and fiancé David Jensen; grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, and Cassandra Martie, and also Lea, Luke, Libby, and Logan Jensen; brother George Johnston and wife, Delta; sister, Blanche Moe, and husband, Richard; niece Judy Hatch and husband, Eric; nephew Joey Larson and wife, Teresa; nephew James Larson; niece Cyndee Krongard; nephew Willie Johnston; nephew John Johnston and wife, Ann. Shirley also leaves behind many wonderful friends at Deerfield.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Bakken-Young Beebe Chapel in New Richmond. Visitation will also be Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Somerset.

Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
