Myrtle Evelyn Wackerfuss, age 98, of New Richmond, died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Deerfield Gables Care Center.
Myrtle Evelyn Wackerfuss, age 98, of New Richmond, died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Deerfield Gables Care Center.
Myrtle was born the daughter of John and Agny Pigine (Olson) Aune on Nov. 20, 1913, in Fosston, Minn. She was baptized and then, on Dec. 16, 1929, confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fosston. She grew up in Fosston and, at the age of 17, moved to the Twin Cities to attend cosmetology school. At that time, she met Walter C. Wackerfuss. They were married on July 18, 1936, and made their home on the east side of St. Paul. They raised four children. Myrtle held various odd jobs through the years to help make ends meet.
She was very involved in her church, Eastern Heights Lutheran Church. In 1978, she moved to New Richmond where she became a member of First Lutheran Church. She was very involved with the quilters at First Lutheran. Myrtle enjoyed making Norwegian delicacies, gardening, needlework, and her pets. She was known for her wit and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a unique woman who was loving and fun.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agny Aune; husband, Walter Wackerfuss; and sister, Gea Engen Lewis.
Myrtle is survived by her children, Donald (Catalina) Wackerfuss, John (Lorraine) Wackerfuss, Thomas (Margaret) Wackerfuss, LeAnn (Lee) Kellaher; former daughter-in-law, Sandra Wackerfuss; grandchildren, Duane (Yumi) Wackerfuss, JoAnn (James) Quackenbush, Dawn (Michael) Franson, James Wackerfuss, Daniel Wackerfuss, Michael (Andrea) Wackerfuss, David (Carrie) Wackerfuss, Todd Wackerfuss, Mark Kellaher, Kirstin Kellaher; adopted grandchildren, Jay (Denise) Wheelock; many great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at First Lutheran Church in New Richmond. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.

Dear Wackerfuss Family, Judy & I really enjoyed traveling with Myrt and Marge to visit Mike, Andrea, Aaron, Matthew, and Joshua. Myrt filled our time with joy and laughter - such a wonderful, delightful person. We share in grieving your loss and extend or deepest sympathy.
