Michael J. "Goose" Swanepoel, age 58, of Glenwood City, Wis., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, at his home.

Mike was born Jan. 2, 1954, in Amery, Wis., to Emil and Marvell (Johnson) Swanepoel, the fifth of 10 children. He grew up on a farm north of Glenwood City and graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1972. He worked for United Refrigeration, Williamson Mid-States Music, Andersen Windows, and most recently he retired from Friday Canning, which is now Lakeside Foods Inc. in New Richmond, Wis.

He was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. He enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and having a beer with friends. He was a voracious reader and possessed many books, which included collections of history, particularly WWII. He was highly intelligent, answering questions on Jeopardy before the contestants. His family would fight over who would partner with Mike for Trivial Pursuit, and he enjoyed being on the computer.

For his quiet demeanor and fun-loving nature, Goose will be remembered. He was a kind man, quick to help family and friends. He never missed family events and will be sorely missed.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Emil, in 1970. His mother, Marvell (Harvey) Serier, passed away Dec. 23, 2012.

Mike is survived by Harvey Serier of Baldwin, Wis.; brothers and sisters: Charles Swanepoel and wife, Kris, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; David Swanepoel and wife, Lorelei, of Emerald, Wis.; Linda Swanepoel of Baldwin; Roger Swanepoel and wife, Mary Ann, of Glenwood City; Bob Swanepoel and wife, Diane, of Glenwood City; Mary Gail Earl of Lakeland, Fla.; Nancy Nichols and husband, Curt, of Baldwin; Ted Swanepoel and wife, Elissa, of Spring Valley, Wis.; Donna Peterson and husband, Lance, of Woodville, Wis.; aunts and uncle June Stack, Margaret Standaert, and Frank Swanepoel. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian burial was held Dec. 22 at St John's Catholic Church, and interment of cremains will be in the church cemetery at a later date.
