When Ralph Powers retired in 2004 after 30 years as a meat cutter, he thought a small deer processing operation might help keep him busy during the winter months.
Little did he realize the demand for deer processing in the New Richmond area.
Recent letters by Michael J. Murray appearing on these pages on the declining deer population and DNR hunting management merit the attention of all area residents concerned about the status of wildlife, the environment and quality of life in this region.
I hate to say “I told you so” but I told you so. Referring to articles I submitted to this very paper in ‘06 and ‘07. With the 2008 deer season under my belt (my 64th opener), I think I can say I’m qualified to make the following observations, not just as a weekend hunter, but one who is in the woods and on our waters day after day throughout the year.
