Eighth-graders receive community letters
In this day of computers and emails, receiving a handwritten, personal letter can be a special thing. Patty Schachtner, Somerset school nurse, helped organize the letter-writing campaign in the schools with Gina Knutson, Carol Jones, Gail Buell and Randy Calleja as a part of the Leadership Trust Initiative, a course sponsored by the New Richmond Area Community Foundation.

Boy Scout honored for life-saving action
Boy Scout Adam Kuhlman, 12, was prepared one day last July when he helped a struggling non-swimmer out of the deep end of an indoor hotel pool in Madison. Adam was able to calmly assess the situation and apply many of the skills he had learned in Scouting.
