Somerset Community Food Pantry seeks volunteers

The Somerset Community Food Pantry, operating out of the former Grace Place location in Somerset behind St. Anne Catholic Church (203 Church Hill Rd.), is seeking volunteers.

According to an email, the pantry needs volunteers for approximately 75 hours of assistance per month. The volunteer needs include:

-- Staffing the pantry (two people per shift): Mondays 9-11 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.; Thursdays 4-6 p.m.

-- Stocking shelves: various times but mainly during open hours and after food deliveries (bending and lifting involved)

-- Food pick-up and delivery (average approximately two to three hours of time per delivery/per person) twice a month, including once a month pick-up and delivery from Hudson; once a month pick-up and deliver from Baldwin; and various pick-up and delivery times from various organizations at unspecified times

-- Cleaning, as needed

Volunteers should be able to lift food donations up to 20 pounds.

Items available to those in need include nonperishable food items such as canned fruit, vegetables, meat, soup, chili, jelly, peanut butter, cereal, juice, baby food and more; baby products; personal hygiene products such as soap, shampoo and toothpaste; produce such as apples, oranges and potatoes; and cold and frozen foods such as meat, bread, blueberries and vegetables.
