With the start of school looming just around the corner, Star Prairie’s Ox Cart Days is one of the last opportunities to celebrate summer with some excellent local music starting with hometown favorite 301 Main taking the main stage at the pavilion 8 p.m. Friday night.

“The whole idea behind 301 Main is to express the diversity of music. At the store, we are the Star Prairie Jam Band. But when there are opportunities outside of here, usually those opportunities require a bit more of the professional player so in those situations I will hand pick the players to fit the venue. Friday night’s performance opportunity is more formal in that it’s 3-4 hours of steady entertainment.

As for 301 Main, my goal for Ox Cart Days is to showcase our diversity,” explained This Old Store proprietor and Star Prairie Jam founder Jerry Ledo.

Many 301 Main musicians will be familiar to audience members from their participation in the Thursday evening Jam at This Old Store as well as their roles in several other well traveled local bands including Cattail Moon and Raging Wood.

Expect 301 Main Friday night to feature the talents of singer songwriter Steve Mireau, Rick Vogelpohl (guitar/vocals), Jaime Novak (assorted instruments/ vocals), Greg Swanda (drums), Big John Machemer (bass), and Bryce Schwarztrauber (vocals) with possibly a few surprise performers as well.

“It’s supposed to be a street dance so the music we’re compiling will be very interactive, it will get you up and dancing,” promised Ledo.

Saturday afternoon will see local legend Fizz Kizer and the Farm Hands take the pavilion stage at 2 p.m. New Richmond native Kizer’s known for his down-homestyle honky tonk lyrics as well as skill playing acoustic guitar. His most recent CD, “The River Road,” features a number of songs inspired by local rivers.

The street dance continues Saturday night when New Richmond band Sunday’s Regret takes the stage at 8 p.m. The band features Nathan Reinhardt (drums/vocals), Brad “Nailz” Parnell (guitar/vocals), Matt Belle Isle (bass/vocals), Kirk Nelson (guitar/vocals), and Ryan Telschow (harmonica/vocals). The band plays a variety of party rock and country.

Don’t miss this opportunity to end your summer on a high note with what promises to be a foot- stomping, toe-tapping street dance this weekend at Ox Cart Days in Star Prairie.
