Friday Memorial Library: Cleaning up your fines
Written by Friday Memorial Library Director Kimberly Hennings.
Spring cleaning is here and at Friday Memorial Library we want to help you clean up your library account. That's why we're teaming up with Family Fresh to bring you "Clean Up Your Fines," a paper and personal care item drive in exchange for library fines, May 1-13.
The library will accept one paper product or personal care item in payment for every $1 or increment of $1, up to $10 in fines per person. If you bring in a $10 Family Fresh gift card you can receive up to $20 off in fines. To encourage extra community support, Family Fresh will match any gift card donations up to $500, doubling your contribution.
All items collected will be donated to the Five Loaves Food Shelf. The Five Loaves Food Shelf serves an average of 700 people per month; including more than 200 children per month. They fill an average of 320 backpacks per month for the "Happy Kids Backpack" program that supplies children with food for the weekend. In addition, they provide meals on wheels to seniors, and a monthly "come" meal, which provides a hot dinner for area residents in need.
Suggested items include toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash, laundry soap, dish soap, feminine hygiene products, baby diapers and wipes.
The library cannot waive replacement or lost item charges or fines from materials borrowed from the Ladysmith/Rusk County Library.
