Event benefits homeless shelters

The 10th annual Grace Place Wine Tasting Benefit is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, at Ready Randy's/R&D Catering in New Richmond.

This event runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Those in attendance can mingle, as well as sample some great wine, beer and appetizers. Music will be provided by "The Ricks" throughout the evening. There will also be a silent auction and raffles to raise money for Grace Place in Somerset and Serenity Home in Balsam Lake.

Tickets are available for $25 at the following locations: Ready Randy's/R&D Catering (New Richmond), 715-246-4446; Family Fresh Liquor (New Richmond), 715-246-2668; B & J Hardware Parts City (Somerset), 715-247-3377; Bill's Ace Hardware, (Osceola), 715-294-3301; and Chet Johnson & Sons Drug Store (Amery), 715-268-8121.

Tickets will also be available at the door for $30 each.

Over the past nine years, this event has raised more than $68,000 to support Grace Place and Serenity Home shelters. Those facilities provide emergency housing for struggling individual and families in St. Croix, Polk and surrounding counties.

Residents typically stay an average of three months, during which time staff and volunteers provide the tools and moral support they need to reach their individual goals. These goals may include finding employment and obtaining necessary medical attention, as well as learning valuable skills necessary to maintain independence. Clients are encouraged to find permanent housing in the communities in which they work.

Since opening its doors, the demand for Grace Place's services has increased over 500 percent. The money raised at this event goes into Grace Place's and Serenity Home's housing account and pays the rent and costs associated with literally keeping the doors of this safe haven open.

Last year Grace Place provided more than 9,800 peaceful nights' sleep for homeless families and individuals in the community.
