For the second year in a row, the New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce held its Windows of Christmas event with Champs Sports Bar & Grill, Perfect Reflection and the Lancer Group Properties taking home the top awards.

“We are really excited to have won. We didn’t try to do anything special, we just wanted to have fun with it,” Champs General Manager Brent Norberg said about the window decorating contest. “This is the second year of doing Windows of Christmas, although they have only done it two years. One of our employees, Sadie Krebbenhoft, came up with the idea and made the painting for us.”

The Windows of Christmas pits local businesses against one another to claim the “Most Traditional,” the “Most Unique” and the “Best Display of Holiday Lights” awards. The contest is judged by the Chamber Ambassadors, as well as members of the community, who went to all the businesses participating and cast votes for the best windows in each category.

Champs took home the “Most Traditional” award for its window display depicting Santa getting stuck in a chimney and a reindeer holding his sack of toys. In the “Most Unique” category, Perfect Reflection was selected as the winner for its display with Santa in a styling chair and curlers in his beard. The final category, “Best Display of Holiday Lights,” was won by the Lancer Group Properties for its festive holiday lights display.

“I just took some advice from other businesses in the area and kept it simple by putting up some festive lighting,” said Dawn Fredrick, office manager of the company’s New Richmond office. “I wanted to make it feel like Christmas while also making it stand out and feel homey when you walk by the office.”

Visitors to each store who cast a vote in the contest were able to enter a drawing for a collection of prizes supplied by the local businesses.

“We want to say thank you to all the local businesses that participated in the New Richmond Chambers’ annual Windows of Christmas decorating contest,” said Chamber Executive Director Lisa Woletz.

Having just joined the New Richmond business community this year, Fredrick feels like winning the award is a big step toward Lancer Group Properties becoming a mainstay in the community.

“We are really excited to just be part of the downtown and the New Richmond area as a whole,” Fredrick said. “I am looking forward to next year’s event already.”

With the event set to become an annual tradition, Norberg for one is looking forward to next year’s contest in the hopes of making it back into the winner’s circle.

“We keep doing the windows of Christmas every year because we are trying to do our part in helping bring business to the downtown area,” Norberg said. “We also wanted to try to put a smile on peoples faces. As of right now, I have no clue what we have planned for next years window.”
