The idea to give manicures to residents of an area nursing home had been something Hair Company and Spa owner Julie Mitchell wanted to do for a while.

On March 3, Mitchell and a group of stylists from Hair Company made the trip to Glenhaven Nursing Home in Glenwood City to give a group of residents complimentary manicures and brighten their day in the process.

“This was the first time we have done this, but it’s something I have always thought about doing,” Mitchell said. “When I was in high school and beauty school I worked as a CNA and knew it would be something the ladies would enjoy. It is also very rewarding to take some time and visit with them.”

The results of the pampering residents received from Hair Company were very positive according to Glenhaven Activity Director Nicole Nusberger.

“The residents just loved getting pampered. They want them to come again soon,” Nusberger said. “The residents talked about their nails the whole week and were showing them off to visitors, staff and each other.”

One of the main reasons Hair Company and Spa offered to give manicures to Glenhaven residents first was that Mitchell had worked at the nursing home in the past.

“We picked Glenhaven first because I used to work there and they had a devastating fire this winter on a new addition, and I thought this would be something positive to bring to the residents,” Mitchell said. “I’m not sure how many manicures we ended up doing. I do know they all enjoyed it very much and appreciated that we came there.”

Not only did the residents at Glenhaven enjoy the manicures, but they also enjoyed the company of the stylists.

“The residents were talking about how nice the girls were and how they liked their company and conversations,” Nusberger said. “They also enjoyed the hand massages they received after their manicures.”

Both Mitchell and her stylists enjoyed the time they spent with the residents while giving them the manicures so much that they would like to try and do something similar at another nursing home in the near future.

“The staff there said they will be talking about this for a while,” Mitchell said. “There were five of us that went and we would all do it again. It was a great experience for us as well. We do plan on doing this again in the future. Next time we will probably do it here in New Richmond.”

Hair Company and Spa is located at 753 S. Knowles Ave. in New Richmond and is hoping to soon move into a building currently under construction on the south side of town. For more information, visit the company’s Facebook page, website (hcandspa. net) or call 715-246-4701.
