Yellowstone Trail Race set for Saturday

Lace up those running and walking shoes: it’s time for the fourth annual Yellowstone Trail Road Races, set for Saturday, June 28, in Roberts and Hammond.

As the race motto says, there are three different ways to get “yellowstoned.” Those up for more of a challenge are invited to take part in the Super Challenge, which includes both the eight-mile run and the 5K walk/run, totaling 11.1 miles.

The eight-mile run will begin at 7 a.m. at the Hammond Hotel in Hammond (820 Davis St.), jog west down County Road TT, turn south onto 170th Street, jog west again on County Road J, veer north on 160th Street, and proceed west again on County Road TT into Roberts.

The 5K run/walk will start in Roberts at 9 a.m., follow a course through town along County Road TT and 130th Street, and end back in town.

A Kids Fun Run will start after the 5K is finished. Ages 10 and younger are invited to participate.

For those who haven’t already registered online, registration will be held for all races at the small park on the corner of Main and Division Streets in Roberts starting at 5:30 a.m.

Registration for the eight-mile run will close at 6:30 a.m. Registration for the 5K Walk/Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. and close at 8:45 a.m. Both courses will be closed by 11 a.m..

A bus will take racers from Roberts to Hammond the morning of the race. One bus will leave Hammond around 6:40 a.m. Pending the number of racers, there will be one bus that will transport racers to Hammond. Racers can park cars in Hammond but will be responsible for getting themselves back to Hammond; no transports will be available from Roberts to Hammond after race is over.

A vehicle will take personal belongs from Hammond to Roberts. Plastic bags will be provided for personal items and the racers’ bib numbers will be written on the bag for easy identification after the race is over. The race committee is not responsible for lost or stolen items; please do not put valuables in the transport bags.

This year, chip timing will be offered to all racers courtesy of Anderson Racing to ensure accurate timing and fast results.

Registration costs are: $30 for the eight-mile race; $20 for the 5K; $35 for the Super Challenge; and $10 for the Fun Run.

The Yellowstone Trail Road Race celebrates the history of the continental highway that ran from Plymouth Rock, Mass., to Puget Sound in Washington from 1912 to 1930. It crossed through Roberts and Hammond, stretching east toward Menomonie and crossed the St. Croix River in Hudson. Find out more about the trail at
