Hammond PD to host NNO event

The Hammond Police Department will host a National Night Out event from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 in Hammond Village Park, in conjunction with other events across the country, including one in New Richmond.

The event gives the public a chance to meet local EMTs, firemen, police officers, village board members and to get to know others in the community.

“It’s a good thing for everyone in town,” Hammond Police Chief Rick Coltrain said. “The K9 demonstration is phenomenal.”

The event, which is free, boasts something for everyone, including face painting, fingerprinting demonstrations, bike helmet fittings, tattoo and sticker prizes for children, free food, blood pressure checks, an Army vehicle display, the St. Croix County K-9 unit demonstration (at 7 p.m.), music and much more.

Coltrain said kids will have the chance to explore a police squad car. The fire department will showcase two or three trucks. The county’s emergency management unit will bring its motorhome mobile command center for tours.
