Sink or Swim Night

On Thursday, May 5, the library had its rescheduled STEM night from April. The topic was "Sink or Swim" and kids learned about buoyancy, density, and surface area, as well as what sorts of things influence whether an object will sink or float in water. Kids created boats out of notecards and tape and competed to see whose boat could hold the most pencil erasers, with the winner's boat holding 61. They also made and tested hypothesis' about what sorts of objects would float in water, before attempting to combine the objects to see if they could make one that would float exactly halfway underwater.
