Hazel Mackin: April program -- Backyard Bird Habitat
Written by Hazel Mackin Community Library director Krissa Coleman
Spring finally feels like it may be here to stay. You may have noticed the birds are coming back with their melody of songs announcing their arrival. That must mean it should be safe to pull out the deck furniture and begin to enjoy the outdoors again.
Our April program is Backyard Bird Habitat, 6:30 p.m Tuesday, April 18. Small areas of habitat can make a big difference in the life of a bird. Learn the essentials of providing birds and other wildlife with food, clean water, shelter and places to nest in your own backyard! Debby Walters will be sharing her expertise with us. We even have bird-watching backpack kits for you to check out and enjoy some nature exploration.
The library is happy to be partnering with the Holiday Angels this Easter season. We have a display of Easter baskets that you can register to try to win. There are six adorable baskets for different age groups: ages 2-4, 5-7, and 8 and up. Drawings will take place Saturday, April 8, after Lego Club. The Holiday Angels is a program for children living in the St. Croix County School District whose families are experiencing financial struggles. This program is sponsored by the Lions Club of Roberts and Hammond.
Food for Fines: During the month of April bring in any nonperishable food item to receive $1 off of your fines. One item equals $1 off. It's a win-win, you can pay down any fines you might have and food shelves will be stocked for the upcoming summer months. If you don't have any fines and still want to participate, we would love to have you donate your food items.
