Bluegrass comes to Hillside Series
The Purdy River Band returns to perform Wednesday evening, July 26, at The Heritage Hillside Series outside at the New Richmond Heritage Center bandstand. Pack up your picnic supper, bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy great music from 6:30-8 p.m.
Formed in 2013, Chuck Lahr & The Purdy River Band perform primarily original music, written by founding member Chuck Lahr, in the traditional and contemporary style of bluegrass, along with classic standards, instrumentals, and gospel. Lead by Manchester, Iowa, guitarist and vocalist Lahr, the band is made-up of outstanding musicians with Dave Anderson on banjo/harmony vocals and Beth Anderson on upright bass. Dave and Beth are married and reside in Preston, Minn. The fourth and newest member of the group is Brian Elzey on mandolin/harmony vocals and he resides in Independence, Iowa. The members of the band are diverse in their musical talents and come together with many years of experience.
The band released their first full length CD of 12 original songs in 2014 titled "Midnight Run," are working in the studio on their second CD, and have been playing the regional bluegrass circuit. "Midnight Run" was awarded the "2015 Vintage Bluegrass CD of the Year" by the Rural Roots Music Commission. This is a family-friendly band that loves an audience.
