Dravis enjoying life in Roberts
For the better part of eight months Derek Dravis was splitting his time between three different police departments.
That came to an end last month as Dravis became a full-time officer for the Roberts Police Department.
“The schedule is a lot easier with only one job,” he said.
The 2007 Eau Claire North graduate became intrigued with law enforcement after taking a criminal justice class in high school.
“I’ve always wanted to help people,” he added.
Dravis moved on to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he earned his degree. He then went through the police academy at Chippewa Valley Technical College where it affirmed his decision.
“At Eau Claire, it was more about why people do what they do,” he explained. “The academy was more hands-on about what an officer does. It made me know that I was capable of doing this.”
He started with Somerset police in May 2013, then added Cadott in March 2014. Four months later he became a member of Colfax police. To show his thanks for giving him a start, he said, he would still gladly work for Somerset police during the upcoming Summer Concert season.
Although it’s been only a month, Dravis said he’s enjoyed the friendly neighborhoods of Roberts and how everyone knows everyone.
When not on duty, one will find Dravis trying to enjoy as many outdoor activities as possible.
