Fun Fest kicks off tonight

With the Fourth of July come and gone, city officials, residents and visitors look toward this weekend and the annual Fun Fest celebration slated to be held starting tonight, Thursday, July 7, and continuing through Sunday, July 10.

The annual Fun Fest — four consecutive days of celebration — will include everything from music, various tournaments, a car show, carnival and much more.

Most notable about Fun Fest was the decision by city fathers to change the annual parade from Saturday back to Sunday and to set the parade route from High Street to 6th Street.

But there’s much more to enjoy prior to Sunday’s big conclusion.

Thursday, July 7

Starting tonight, Thursday — tagged as “Country Music Night” — the carnival will open at 6 p.m. with a $20 wrist band night until 10 p.m.

The food booths open at 5 p.m. with a Fun Fest happy hour between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The music gets going at 6 p.m. with Rural Route 5 taking the stage. They will be followed at 8:45 p.m. by Tim Sigler.

Friday, July 8

Get ready to get crazy with the “crazy day” specials taking place throughout the day around town.

The softball tournament at Hatfield Park begins on Friday and continues throughout the weekend.

At Cyclone Park the food booths and carnival will open. The carnival will once again have a $20 wristband special until 4 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the New Richmond Tennis Open gets started and will continue throughout the weekend.

Another happy hour gets going at 4 p.m., while the Millers baseball team plays a 7 p.m. game at Citizens Field.

With the day dubbed as “Dweebs Night,” the music entertainment starts at 5:30 p.m. with a performance by Trandy Blue & the Crew, followed at 9 p.m. by The Dweebs.

Saturday, July 9

“Family Fun Day” gets going early on Saturday, July 9, as the Willow River Run/Walk at Mary Park, as well as the Bean Bag Tournament get under way at 9:30 a.m. in the festival area.

Also at 9:30 a.m. the Antique & Farm Stock Tractor Pull in the Domain parking lot will begin.

A pie and ice cream social will be sponsored by the United Methodist Church at 209 E. 2nd St. The social will run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

The food booths around Cyclone Park will open for business at noon, as will the carnival and New Richmond Hockey Association classic car show and the children’s water competition at the New Richmond Fire Hall.

In addition, a booth to raise money for the skateboard/BMX park will also be set up on the grounds. Organizers are offering prizes at $5 per-chance, $20 for five chances. There will be BMX bikes, skateboards, an 18-hole foursome with power carts at the golf course, and about $800 in gift certificates to restaurants around town, as well as gas coupons. Minimum prize value will be worth $50.

At 1 p.m., the pedal tractor pull will be held in the festival area, while the New Richmond Fire Department’s water battle at the New Richmond Fire Hall gets going at 1:30 p.m.

The evening’s music offerings get started at 6 p.m. with a performance by Lady Luck. They will be followed by Rhino at 9 p.m.

Sunday, July 10

After church services, the final day of Fun Fest opens at noon with the carnival rides being offered with a $20 wrist band day until 4 p.m.

But it’s the Fun Fest Grand Parade that dominates this day. With more than 100 entries, parade-goers should find their seat as early as possible between High Street and 6th street.
