The “iQuiz” Junior Bible Quiz team from Cornerstone Assembly of God in New Richmond recently went to Cedar Hills, Texas (a suburb of Dallas) for a national Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) competition.

Approximately 2,000 teams across the nation compete within their respective states or districts during the regular season. Eighty teams are selected for post-season competition at the national level, based on the district and regional competitions.

The local “iQuiz” team was thrilled to take 15th place overall in the United States on June 8.

Members of the Cornerstone “iQuiz” JBQ team include Joelle and Jason Rapp from Osceola; Mitchell and Owen Covey, Samantha Brown, and Tristan Steel from New Richmond; Megan Johnson from Somerset; Seth Crawford from Houlton; and David and Caleb Blomberg from Dent, Minn. They are coached by Jeff and Tamara Rapp of Osceola and Dave Blomberg of Dent, Minn.

This is the third consecutive year the team has competed at the regional level in post season and the second consecutive year for the team to qualify to compete at the national level.

The Junior Bible Quiz program consists of studying questions of varying point values based on Biblical history and memorizing specific passages from the Bible that apply to a particular question.

Approximately 600 questions are part of this program. The questions are studied by the team members and scrimmages on the questions are held during weekly practices.

The quiz matches place one team against another from a different church with a set of buzzers (red team/green team) judges, a scorekeeper and a quizmaster to judge the answers. The first person to “buzz” gets the opportunity to answer the question and score points for their team. The quiz season begins in September and the regular season ends in March at the state competition. Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) is for children in grades 4-6.

A parent’s meeting for families interested in becoming involved in the Bible Quiz program in New Richmond will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Cornerstone Assembly of God, 1350 Heritage Way, in New Richmond.

Please RSVP to Cornerstone Assembly of God at 715-246-2284, by Monday, Aug. 12. There are three levels of quizzing from K-12 that children may be involved with.
