During the cold winter months, it can be difficult to find motivation to exercise or even get out of the house to socialize. Many seniors recognize the importance of incorporating some daily exercise into their lives, but this can be difficult when the weather makes it unpleasant, or even impossible, to go outside and be active.
However, the cold weather shouldn't offer an excuse to plop yourself in your favorite chair in front of the television for the next several months. Even though the air outside is frightful, there are still plenty of ways to stay active and mobile throughout the winter.
This season the Centre is offering a number of opportunities geared for active older adults including: Growing Strong Seniors Small Group Training, Annual Senior Holiday Luncheon, and open gym hours to walk laps!
Annual Senior Holiday Luncheon
The New Richmond Area Centre cordially invites you to an afternoon of food, entertainment, and holiday cheer Dec. 1 from 11:30 a.m.— 1:30 p.m. Join the Centre for an Elvis Show featuring entertainer, Joe Sir, and a potluck lunch. Bring a dish to pass, some good friends, and your holiday spirit. The event is free for all participants with a non-perishable food item for Five Loaves Food Shelf.
Walk the Gym
Too cold or icy to walk outside? Walk in the Centre's gymnasium where it's always above freezing. Walk laps from 1-3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Centre provides a number of other senior programs and initiatives including senior potlucks, sport leagues, nutrition seminars, group fitness classes, and specialized small group training classes.
