Hoffman named NL pitcher of month for May
Brewers' closer Trevor Hoffman has been named the National League's pitcher of the month for May.
He converted all 11 of his save opportunities last month, and made 12 appearances in all without giving up a run.
It's the second time the Hoffman, 41, won the monthly NL award. He also did it in May of 2005 when he was with San Diego.
Hoffman is having one of his better seasons after signing with Milwaukee as a free-agent in the off-season.
He's 14-14 in save chances, and has held opponents scoreless in 16 appearances.
Hoffman gets a 52-inch flat-screen TV with the award.
He says he'll give it to the trainers to use at Miller Park for the help they give him as he prepares each day.
