Packers put rookies to work this weekend

All 11 Packer draft choices will be on hand for the team's rookie orientation weekend that starts today.

That includes first-round defensive tackle Justin Harrell who will hold his first in-person news conference. That normally takes place on Draft Weekend, but Harrell couldn't make it to Green Bay last week because of a family commitment.

Coach Mike McCarthy decided to have a separate rookie camp because he thought the newcomers did not get enough practice at the team's post-draft mini-camp a year ago.

The veterans are due in May 18th for a mandatory camp.

About 20-25 rookies are expected this weekend. That includes a number of un-drafted players the Packers signed and about a half-dozen players the team brought in for try-outs.

That includes University of Wisconsin quarterback John Stocco, and UW-La Crosse basketball standout Joe Werner who will tested at tight end.
