Motorcyclist dies in Emerald crash

A 59-year-old Baldwin man has died as a result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash at 7:54 p.m. Tuesday, July 18. The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department responded to a single motorcycle crash on County Road G, about a tenth of a mile east of 250th Street in the Town of Emerald. A 2013 Harley Davidson, driven by Robert F. Cripe, Baldwin, was westbound on County Road G when a deer entered the roadway. Cripe's motorcycle struck the deer and Cripe was ejected from the motorcycle. He was the only occupant of the motorcycle. Cripe was transported by LifeLink helicopter from the scene to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he later died. According to a press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff's office, it is unknown if Cripe was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's office. This is the sixth fatality of 2013 in the county. Assisting at the scene of the accident was the Glenwood City Fire & EMS and Baldwin EMS.
