Trick-or-treating to hit downtown

The New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce is once again inviting downtown businesses, as well as parents and children, to participate in its Safe and Happy Trick-or-Treating event, which will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for parents to bring their young ones out and trick-or-treat in a safe environment and before it gets dark out,” said Lisa Woletz, executive director of the New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce. “We typically see 700 to 800 people at the chamber and the event keeps growing from year to year.”

Downtown businesses interested in participating in handing out treats on Halloween should contact the Chamber of Commerce, by email or in person, to get a Safe and Happy Trick-or-Treating poster to post.

“For the businesses, It is a good chance to showcase what they offer to all the people who make it out,” Woletz said. “They don’t have to give out candy either. The chamber will be giving out coloring books this year. Most of the businesses do give out candy, but all of them treat the kids to something, it just depends on the business. Some of them also have treats for the grownups as well, like coupons or other offers.”

One of the most appealing things of the downtown Safe and Happy Trick-or-Treating event is that parents can get their kids out trick-or-treating before it gets dark and have a good time downtown.

“Parents and families look forward to this event every year because it gives them a safe and fun trick-or-treating event for the kids,” Woletz said.
