Schachtner ranked third best prospect in state

Somerset's Mike Schachtner was ranked as the number three senior in Wisconsin High School basketball for 2005 by

Schachtner has already committed to play his college basketball at UW-Green Bay.

The top two players in the state according to the website have also made verbal commitments. Marcus Landry of Milwaukee Vincent is ranked as the number one senior in the state. Last Friday he verbally committed to play for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Landry is a 6-7, 200-pound forward.

The second-ranked recruit is shooting guard Wesley Matthews of Madison Memorial. He is the son of former Badger guard Wes Matthews, but he won't be following in his father's college footsteps. Matthews (6-5, 185 pounds) recently made a verbal commitment to play at Marquette.

Schachtner is the third-ranked recruit. At 6-8, none of the top 25 ranked seniors are taller than Schachtner.

The only other player from western Wisconsin to be ranked in the top 25 is Hudson point guard Matt Miller. Miller is ranked as the 17th top senior basketball player in the state.

These rankings were updated following the summer season when many of the top seniors were playing on club teams that got them national exposure.
