Central's Sanders gets win at GC Invitational

St. Croix Central's Mark Sanders pulled away from the competition early and won by more than 30 seconds in the boys race in the Glenwood City Invitational last Tuesday.

Central was one of six Dunn-St. Croix Conference teams competing in the meet.

Central's boys placed fifth in the meet. Four of the boys had their best times of the year.

"Mark (Sanders) ran his fastest time of his career and this course was more difficult than the average course," said Central coach Missy Brown. "Mark ran strong throughout the entire race."

Chris Platson broke one of his season goals by breaking the 21-minute barrier in this meet.

"I expect even better times for the boys when we come back to Glenwood for the conference meet," Brown said.

The Panther girls were fourth among six teams, while Brown said that it was an off race for the girls, due to illnesses and injuries.

"Hopefully we are on the road to recovery. Our middle pack runners are sticking together and encouraging each other along great, now we just need them to pick up the pace for conference," Brown said.

Kailey Haas was the top Panther finisher, taking 11th place. Katelyn Forsythe and Lauren Robertson also placed in the top 15 runners in the race.

The Panthers don't run again until the conference meet. That meet will be held next Tuesday, back at the Glenwood City course.
