Two NR lifters compete at state meet

Mitch Campeau and Emily Frank of New Richmond competed in the 2004 Wisconsin Powerlifting Championships.

The championships were held in Kimberly on March 12-13. They qualified for the state meet at a powerlifting meet held in New Richmond two weeks earlier.

At the state meet they both finished 15th in their weight divisions. Frank had a 195-pound squat lift, an 80-pound bench press and a 195-pound dead lift. That gave her a total of 470 pounds.

Campeau had a 365-pound squat lift, a 170-pound bench press and a 455-pound dead lift, for a total of 990 pounds.

They both said they lifted better in the New Richmond meet, where Campeau finished with 1,050 pounds in lifts and Frank had 510 pounds in lifts.

Campeau also competed at state last year. Frank took up lifting after the volleyball season. She said it has helped her in track.

"I can tell I'm a little faster in the short distances. My form is a little better in the pole vault because my arms and legs are a little stronger," she said.

Campeau is a senior and plans to attend a tech school to study mechanics. He said he plans to continue to lift competitively after he finishes high school.
