Subway expands to Roberts mall
Fast food choices just expanded in Roberts. A new Subway restaurant was set to open Wednesday.
Jackie and Robert Armstrong, owners of two New Richmond and one Baldwin Subway restaurant, are thrilled to be part of an expanding business base in the village.
The restaurant is located in the strip mall on the northern edge of town on Highway 12.
"We just saw a need for this with the volume of traffic on Highway 12," Jackie said. "We wanted to expand our business a little bit further and cover a little bit greater area."
The Armstrong's New Richmond Subway at N. Knowles Avenue has been operating for more than two years. They opened another location in the new New Richmond Wal-Mart in January.
Getting the Roberts location open has been a bit of an effort for the restaurant veterans, but they should hit the ground running once the first customers stream in.
"This is our first store that we've constructed from scratch," Jackie said. The other Subways were opened in buildings that were already constructed. "It's been a little bit of a challenge, but it's gone fairly well."
One thing that has been encouraging is the response the Armstrongs have heard from community members.
"People are excited about us being in Roberts," Jackie said. "It gives people a few more options as far as eating."
The Subway opens with 13 to 14 employees trained and ready to serve up sandwiches and other items. General manager for all four Subway locations is Janel Strenke.
Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The restaurant is open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
