Star Prairie prepares for community celebration

Dust off your ox carts and head to Star Prairie this weekend.

The community's annual Ox Cart Days is scheduled this Friday through Sunday.

"It's going to be fun, but it's going to be a rough weekend I'm sure," said Cindy Gibson, Lion's Club member and Ox Cart Days coordinator. "There are not many Lion's Club members so we don't get much sleep."

The volunteers devote so much time to the Ox Cart preparations because they enjoy providing the community with an annual celebration, Gibson said. Quite a few activities are planned that cater to all age ranges, which stretches the volunteer force to the limits.

Organizers are still seeking additional helpers for bingo and in the food stand for the weekend's festivities. Anyone who can devote a few hours to help out are urged to call 248-3226.

The week's celebration actually kicked off Sunday night with the Little Mr. and Miss Swimsuit contest. The queen's banquet was held Sunday at R&D Catering, the new banquet hall south of New Richmond. About 130 people attended.

"Everyone enjoyed it," Gibson said.

The fun continued Tuesday with the "Party in the Park" event at River Island Park. The festivities included a dinner, music and and demonstrations.
