Tigers win in the rain

Cold, wet conditions didn't seem to bother the New Richmond boys tennis team last Thursday.

The Tigers were able to put up plenty of offensive pressure against Eau Claire North and they were able to finish off those scoring chances, winning 4-1.

Leading scorer Brian Figueroa led the Tigers with three goals in the game. Jordan Anderson also put one shot in the net in the first half of the game.

Tiger coach Pete Melloy said the team played well in the game, "but we're still a work in progress," he said.

The Tiger lineup was back at full strength last week. Goalie Trent Brotzler and defender Matt Tschudy both returned from injuries to strengthen the team defensively.

The Tigers took charge of this game early, allowing Melloy to play his reserves for extended periods throughout the game.

Last Tuesday the Tigers suffered a 1-0 loss at Spooner. Melloy said the Tigers dominated most aspects of the game, but they weren't able to get any shots past the Spooner goal keeper.

The Tigers have two difficult road games on the schedule in the upcoming days. On Thursday the Tigers will be playing at Cumberland. That's followed by a game at Amery next Tuesday.

Win at Osceola

The Tigers scored a 7-2 win at Osceola on Monday, a game that was lately rescheduled.

Osceola scored the first goal of the game. The lead didn't last long, as the Tigers put together a flurry of goals to move comfortably ahead. Many of the Tiger reserves played during the second half of the game.

Melloy moved Jeremy Lyons up to midfield for this game from his regular defender position. Lyons took the opportunity and scored three of New Richmond's goals.
