Somerset company adds strength to Gopher stadium
The Golden Gophers new football stadium is underway.
As a 50,000-person open-air stadium, the need for materials has reached beyond Minnesota into Somerset.
American Structural Metals (ASM), Inc., located at 777 Lehman Way, is supplying half of the steel needed for the $288.5 million dollar structure -- approximately 3,800 tons.
According to Ed Noreen, estimator with ASM's Bloomington sales office, the most challenging part of this particular job was the timing.
"For a job this size, we normally deliver in half-a-year or 26 weeks," Noreen said. "For this job, they wanted it in 14 weeks."
Noreen said they are about 40 percent done.
The University of Minnesota plans to have the stadium ready for kickoff on Sept. 12, 2009.
