After-school activities at SCC canceled due to snow

A heavy snow warning remains in effect for western Wisconsin, including New Richmond and all of St. Croix County.

St. Croix Central canceled all of its after-school activities due to the snow. Other districts in the area closed early, such as Amery and Glenwood City, and also cancelled after-school activities.

The snow kicked into high gear by late morning Monday, March 31. Forecasters say the snow will likely continue to fall and accumulate through the evening.

The snow has been messing up local roads as the day progresses. Several accidents were reported in St. Croix County as a result, as roadways become slushy from the snow.

The snow has been heavy at times with visibilities down a quarter mile at times, according to the National Weather Service. Six to nine inches of snow are possible throughout the region today through tomorrow morning. Forecasters say some higher snowfall totals could be possible along the Highway 8 corridor.

Windy conditions will blow in during the afternoon hours, making travel more difficult. The Weather Service said blowing and drifting snow could occur in open areas.
