Service Day planned for May 2

The second annual Somerset High School Community Service Day will be held on Friday, May 2.

SHS students, staff, administration and volunteers will be working around the community on numerous projects from 8:30-11:30 a.m. that day.

A number of services will be done around the community. Students will be performing free car washes at the Somerset Fire Hall. They will also check your car's fluids and tire pressure for free.

Another of the main efforts will be a collection for the Somerset Area Food Shelf. Students will be going door to door in this effort. Community members are asked to leave donations on their doorsteps. People living outside the Village can drop off their donations at Somerset High School.

Among the other projects will be:

-- Working in the Helen Landry Memorial Garden and cleaning the Historic Old Town Hall;

-- Painting the refuse barrels at Larry Forrest Park;

-- Planting flower beds at all three School District buildings;

-- Performing a sweep through the community, cleaning up trash that has accumulated over the winter;

-- Planting grass seed at local ball fields;

-- Building bluebird houses that will be placed around the school campus;

-- The Apple River and retention ponds will be waded through and cleaned up;
