UPDATE: Five injured in New Richmond accident

A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wall Street and Highway 64 in New Richmond sent five people to the hospital Thursday morning.

A mini van and a car collided at the intersection around 10:30 a.m. Dec. 11. The van remained on Highway 64 after the crash, but the car left the roadway and settled several hundred feet to the north after hitting a small tree.

John Utecht, 73, New Richmond, was the driver of the car, which was headed northbound on Wall Street. Police report that Utecht failed to yield the right of way and allegedly drove into the path of the van, driven by Lisa Bos, 22, Glenwood City.

Utecht sustained serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Regions Hospital for treatment. As of Friday he remained in critical condition at Regions.

His wife, Joan Utecht, 71, was a passenger in the car. She was transported to Westfields Hospital in New Richmond for treatment of injuries. She remained in good condition on Friday.

Lisa Bos was transported to Westfields Hospital due to injuries. Van passengers Gerald Schlussler, 38, and Tiffanni Schlussler, 6 months, were also transported to the hospital.

The New Richmond Police, New Richmond ambulance and Rescue Service and New Richmond Fire Department responded to the scene.
