The Centre starts incentive program for local employers

The New Richmond Area Centre will soon offer Just Move It, an employee exercise program aimed at getting employees to exercise more.

The program was developed by Brooke Campbell, health enhancement director at The Centre.

"We wanted an incentive program that didn't just focus on losing weight but on movement too," she said.

When she worked at a hospital in Reedsburg, she had more than a quarter of the employees participating in the program, she said.

The program allows employees at New Richmond businesses to form teams of three to six people to compete against other teams, she said. For members of The Centre, cost is $5; for non-members, cost is $15.

The program runs from March 1 through May 23.

Each team logs its weekly minutes of exercise. At the end of the program, averages are compared among the teams.

"It's a way to be able to touch as many people as possible," Campbell said.

An informational luncheon will be held at The Centre, 428 S. Starr Ave., on Feb. 18 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The program is sponsored by The Centre, but unless you're a member, program participants do not get to use the facility.

Just Move It participants are able to exercise at home or other fitness facilities but must work from a pre-approved exercise list, Campbell said. Physical activities such as shoveling snow will not count toward weekly exercise minutes.

"I'm pretty strict," she said. "While shoveling snow is good for you, exercise goes above and beyond physical activities."
