Thieves forget remote in TV heist, cops use it to nab them
Thieves who stole a TV in Barron County last summer left the remote behind and police used it to nab two teens.
Prosecutors said Shane Gust and Jordan Wittwer, both 19, from Chippewa Falls, broke into the home of a man who used to date Gust's sister and they took a 27-inch TV and other items.
Police said they acted on a tip when they went to Gust's house, and used the victim's remote to turn on the TV.
Gust recently spent 20 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to theft and trespassing.
Wittwer is due to make his first court appearance March 4, on a felony charge of burglary, and misdemeanor counts of theft and trespassing.
