Clothing running short at center

More and more people are taking advantage of inexpensive clothing at the Five Loaves Food Shelf and Clothing Center.

As a result, the supplies of clothing and shoes at the center (150 W. First Street) are getting low.

Mona Flanum, a volunteer at the facility, said the clothing center usually gets a new supply of clothes when people start their spring cleaning. But that rush is probably still weeks away.

"We would encourage people to sort through their clothing now and drop stuff off," Flanum said.

Donations can be left at the center from 12-3 p.m. on Mondays, 9 a.m.-noon on Wednesdays and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.

"The need is really great right now," she said. "We're OK on food right now, but we need help with the clothing."

Five Loaves has seen a 30-40 percent increase in use over recent months, Flanum reported.

Many of the new clients using the food shelf and clothing center are people who work but are having trouble making ends meet.

"It's the working poor who need help," she said.
