David A Logghe, 67

David A Logghe, 67 of Glenwood City, died Tuesday March 17, 2009 at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City, AZ, peacefully with his family by his side.

He was born Nov. 13, 1941 in Glenwood City to Arthur and Ruth (Gerber) Logghe. David attended Camp 9 Country School and Glenwood City High School. He graduated with the class of 1959. He then attended UW-Madison where he completed the Agriculture short course while serving as class president.

He married Kay Dobberphul on July 9, 1965 in Glenwood City where they farmed 900 acres of cropland and milked 170 cows until 1991. While farming, David was active in many organizations including the Tri-State Breeders Coop, Farm-Supply Coop Director, St. Croix DHIA Director, Glenwood City School Board, WDHIC/State Policy Committee, and he was a delegate to the National DHIA.

In 1985, Dave and his brother John began hauling sawdust for themselves on the farm. Three years later they opened the doors to Logghe Trucking and Misty Meadows Wood Products in Glenwood City. They later formed JD Wood Recovery Inc. They have shared in the operation and management until Dave retired in December of 2007.

In 1997, Dave was elected to the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College Board of Trustees. He has since been a very active member of the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association. He has served in many official capacities including Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President and State President. He was presently serving on the National Association of Community College Trustees as state coordinator as well as a member of the Patient and Family Advisory Committee at Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie, Wis.

Some of the honors bestowed upon Dave which were close to his heart include the St. Croix County Dairy Service Award (1982), New Richmond Jaycee Outstanding Young Farmer Award (1975), St. Croix County Small Business of the Year Award (1998) and the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association State Board Member of the Year (2005). Dave was a devoted and faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church where he served as lector, lay distributor and a KC member.

Dave will be greatly missed by his wife, Kay; their four children, Robert (Lisa) Logghe, Holly (Patrick) Olson, Christa (Gabe) Walz, and Sarah Logghe; five grandchildren, Jake and Cole Logghe, Drew and Brody Olson, Haidyn and Baby Walz all reside in the Glenwood City area. He is further survived by a sister, Jeanie (Marvin) Booth; brother John (Jill); and also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ruth.

Dave had many passions and enjoyed life to its fullest. He loved to follow and cheer for the Brewers, Packers, Badgers and Hilltoppers. He enjoyed turkey and deer hunting, cooking, gardening, boating, traveling and socializing with anyone, anywhere! Spending time with his family and grandchildren were at the top of his list. He has left us all with an everlasting legacy!

Celebration of Dave's life was at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, at St John's Catholic Church in Glenwood City, Wis., Visitation was held at St John's Catholic Church on Monday, March 23, from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Memories and condolences may be shared online at
