Rock Youth 'shine' in show

Patrick LeMire displayed his musical abilities during the Rock Youth Group's second annual "Dinner and a Show" on March 28. He played "Pirates of the Caribbean" after the audience had finished their dinner of lasagna and salad.

The Rock Youth Group held its second annual Dinner and a Show March 28 in Canon Hall in St. Anne's Church.

The event, a free will offering to raise money for their yearly mission trip, drew about 150 people and raised $1,437. The amount got them closer to their ultimate goal of $7,400 to pay for 18 youth members and three adults to go to St. Louis. There, the youth will work with inner city groups, elderly and children.

The group served a sit-down meal of cheese and crackers, salad, veggies and dip, lasagna and brownies with hot fudge sauce and berries for dessert.

Entertainment for the evening consisted of the members performing piano solos, vocal duets, guitar performances and an American Idol skit. The youth also presented a video of last year's mission trip to West Virginia.

"I thought it was neat; the kids did all the work from the decorations to making the lasagna from scratch," Sara Measner, youth minister, said. "It was great to see them shine in their serving and their talents. They are really good kids."

The group plans further fundraising events such as a garage sale and "selling stock" in the individual members. People can buy stock in a member as a sponsorship and all stockholders are invited to an ice cream social after the group comes back.
