Bernadine M. Frey, 71

Bernadine Mary Frey, 71 of New Richmond passed away March 24, 2009 at Westfields Hospital.

She was born in River Falls, Wis. on July 21, 1937 to Bernard and Virginia (Taplin) Purfeerst. She attended school in River Falls and graduated from high school in 1955. Bernie attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology where she earned her degree as a medical lab technician.

On July 6, 1957 she married Gerald Frey at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls. Bernie worked as a lab technician at Holy Family Hospital, was the secretary at Immaculate Conception Church and spent 22 years as a secretary for the School District of New Richmond, retiring in June of 2001.

In retirement, Bernie enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, classmates, and friends. Her regular luncheons with old friends and co-workers were always special. She enjoyed a variety of interests from cooking and baking to traveling, gardening and reading. She had a love of nature and bird watching, which she passed on to each of her children and grandchildren. All who knew Bernie will miss her "take charge" attitude, common sense, generosity and sense of humor.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Gerald Frey; their four children, Steve (Peg) Frey, Tom (Sue) Frey, Brian (Brenda) Frey, Lisa (Pat) Earley; 10 grandchildren, Alison and Patrick Frey, Kristine and Katie Frey, Jared, Kyle and Landon Frey, and James, Erin and John Earley; one great-grandson, Keegan; all who reside in the New Richmond area.

She is further survived by her sister Barb (Dan) Kraemer who resides in Sun City, Ariz.; sisters-in-law Pat Purfeerst of River Falls and Kathleen Purfeerst of New Richmond; brother-in-law Lorin (Judy) Frey of River Falls; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Gerald Purfeerst and Lawrence (Bernie) Purfeerst from River Falls, Wis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 27, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church, New Richmond, Wis. with Father Jim Brinkman officiating. Pallbearers were Patrick, Jared and Kyle Frey and Ryan, Mike, Jay and Dan Purfeerst. Honorary pallbearers were Kristine, Katie, Alison and Landon Frey and James, Erin and John Earley. Gift bearers were her dear friends Sandy Sievert and Evie Berends. Music was provided by vocalist Anne Anez and organist Barb Peterson.

Interment was at Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery in New Richmond, Wis.
