Cool winds did not deter St. Anne's Give Back Day

Margo Gauper, second grader at St. Anne's School, and her mother Heather sweep leaves off the existing markers in the St. Anne's cemetery. They were taking part in the St. Anne's School's second annual Give Back Day on Saturday, May 16.

The second Annual Give Back Day on Saturday, May 16 was well-attended, despite the chilly 40 degree weather. Students and families from St. Anne's School got to the church at 8 a.m. to help with yardwork, interior cleaning and cemetery maintenance.

"Several of the monument markers had sunken over the year and needed to be reset," said Randall Stanke, principal of St. Anne's School. The markers were removed and dirt was added so they would be level.

Schmitt and Sons Excavating donated the larger equipment needed for the bigger markers.

Other family members swept leaves off the existing markers, washed windows and raked the yard.

"We have about 50-60 people show up," Stanke said, as he took a break from identifying the sunken markers. "This is just a chance for us to give back to the parish for all their support for the school."
