Golf tourney to benefit library takes in $11,000+

The third annual Hazel Mackin Community Library Golf Outing netted about $11,200 for the new building fund.

That surpasses last year's total by about $200.

"We had quite a day," said Katy Kapaun, Hazel Mackin Library Board member.

"Sad to say but that's the best weather we've had for the tournament," she added.

Twenty-four golfers braved the cold, windy weather on Saturday, Aug. 29, to play a round for the library. That's the most golfers ever to play in the tournament.

Several golfers were back for their third year in a row, Kapaun said.

Contests along the course kept the rounds lively. Winning the longest drive contest were Jerry Conley and Renee Renspe. Barb and Don Larson took the titles for longest putts.

After the round, a steak dinner was served. Those who wanted to dine but not golf were able to buy tickets for $25 each. Ninety-eight took advantage of the meal.

A set of men's golf clubs, a wood pellet grill and smoker took the highest bids in the silent auction.

Plans are already underway for the fourth annual outing next fall.

By the time that rolls around, the new library will be under construction. Ground breaking is tentatively set for early November this year.
