Brewers may name Rick Peterson today as their new pitching coach

The Milwaukee Brewers are expected to name Rick Peterson today as their new pitching coach.

The Journal Sentinel said Peterson, 54, was chosen over Bryan Price who took a similar job in Cincinnati last weekend, and interim pitching coach Chris Bosio.

Peterson was the pitching coach at Oakland under Brewers' manager Ken Macha in 2003, and he worked with Macha in Boston's minor league system.

He was also the New York Mets' pitching coach under current Brewers' bench coach Willie Randolph, until both were fired together during the 2008 season. Peterson has also been with Pittsburgh, Toronto, Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox.

He pitched for four years in the Pirates' system and he started his coaching career there in 1979.

This past year, Peterson helped launch 3P Sports, which provides a bio-mechanical analysis of pitchers and other athletes to help improve their performance, and evaluate their chances of injuries.
