Ahman Green and Dominic Rhodes try out in Green Bay; NFL trading deadline today

Ahman Green, the Packers' second all-time leading rusher, had a try out in Green Bay Monday, along with veteran running back Dominic Rhodes.

The Packers are apparently looking for somebody else to back up Ryan Grant.

DeShawn Wynn missed last Sunday's game with a knee injury, and Brandon Jackson missed the Packers' first four games with a bad ankle.

Green, 32, was let go by the Houston Texans last off-season, two years after he left the Packers as a free agent.

He racked up more than 8,000 yards in seven seasons in Green Bay but he played only 14 games in two years with the Texans due to various injuries.

Green told his former Packer teammates this spring he wanted to rejoin them and he reportedly told a number of NFL teams he wanted to play again.

Rhodes, 30, was cut by Buffalo after its training camp in September.

He last played a year ago with Indianapolis, when he split time with Joseph Addai.

Meanwhile, James Jones will become the Packers' No. 3 receiver on a full-time basis after Jordy Nelson sprained a knee against Detroit.

Nelson will be out for at least a couple of weeks. Coach McCarthy also said veteran tackle Mark Tauscher would not be ready for Sunday's game at Cleveland.

The Packers re-signed Tauscher a week ago.

The NFL trading deadline is at 3 p.m. today, and from all indications, the Packers will stand pat.

There was some talk about dealing outside linebacker Aaron Kampman after a change in position reduced his production this year.

But he's not listed among the trade rumors in the national media overnight. Meanwhile, Packers' linebacker Desmond Bishop said he would not oppose a trade, but his position coach Winston Moss said he would be shocked if it happened.

Bishop has played just one game in the Packers' base 3-4 defense this season. But he could provide depth if something happens to Brandon Chillar, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this year.
