May Fair event, sale set May 7

The second annual May Fair event and sale is Saturday, May 7, at the St. Croix County Fairgrounds Fairplex in Glenwood City.

Gates will open for inspection of the auction items at 4 p.m. with the formal program starting at 5 p.m. The May Fair Event and Sale is sponsored by The Friends of the St. Croix County Fairplex in cooperation with the St. Croix County 4-H Dairy Committee. The event will be held in the commercial building with auxiliary heat provided.

A free-will offering ham and deli oven chicken dinner will be catered by Ruth Hurtgen. Additionally there will be free milk and 25-cent ice cream cones provided while supplies last.

Entertainment features 4-H talent explosion acts by the Roberts Ribbon Reapers, Hudson Trailblazers and Hammond True Blue 4-H clubs as well as live concertina music by Bruce Libby plus a live auction. For youngsters, there will be a nickel scramble with plenty of silver for all.

The silent and live auctions will feature everything from top cow genetics, club calves and springing heifers to restaurant and salon packages. Included will be hanging flower baskets just in time for Mother's Day.

The purpose of the May Fair event and sale is to raise funds for the renovations of the Generations Capital Fund Campaign. Successful completion of this campaign will finance four new buildings for the fairgrounds. The first of two dairy barns is currently being erected for this year's fair. All funds raised at the event will be directed towards completing construction of Dairy Barn 1.
