Bristol Ridge teeing up for the troops early this year

No, they aren't rushing the season.

"Tee it up for the Troops" - a golfing fundraising event for United States troops - is typically held around Sept. 11 of each year, since its inception in 2005.

However, Bristol Ridge Golf Course in Somerset is going to beat the rush by holding its second annual fundraiser on Saturday, May 15, at noon.

"We wanted to separate ourselves from all the other tournaments held on the fall date, so we decided to go for Armed Forces Day," explained Tom Tjader, general manager of Bristol Ridge.

"Tee it Up for the Troops" is a national organization that supports programs for veterans and their families. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the May 15 event will go toward TIUFTT.

It will be a four-person scramble format, with a $50/golfer entry fee. The price includes golf, cart, an Italian dinner and the donation to TIUFTT.

The Somerset American Legion Honor Guard will open the festivities with a gun salute. There will also be raffles throughout the day.

Businesses can sponsor a hole for $100, or donate prizes for the raffles. Contact Bristol Ridge at 715-247-3673 or visit www.bristol for more information.

"Last year, we raised $1,400," Tjader said. "They had suggested we just put a jar on the counter - they were stunned when they saw how much we raised for a first-time outing."
