Ox Cart Days celebrated

Droves of people headed for Star Prairie last weekend to celebrated the 41st annual Ox Cart Days.

Events, including a softball tournament, live music and a parade, were planned on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Award winners were announced during Sunday's pageant.

The medallion was found by Sheila Holle. It took four clues for it to be found, which was the most ever, said Chris Boardman, Star Prairie Lion. It was hidden downtown by the post office in a PVC pipe.

Dave's Service took the prize for most humorous float during Sunday's parade. Johnson Motors won the historical category for antique cars and a firetruck. Garden Expressions, whose float was a large trailer covered in flowers, was the winner in the business category. Durand was the top float.

Each year, the Star Prairie Lions honor a business that has helped throughout the year. This year's honored business was Main Street Pizza, owned by Rick and Jessica Larson. They've contributed to events many times, Boardman said.

The Lions also like to honor a fellow Lion who has served the club well, Boardman said. This year's Lion of the Year is Les Rogers. Rogers has done so much for the club, having transferred from another club, Boardman said.

There was a healthy competition for all the Star Prairie royalty crowns.

After an hour-long pageant on Sunday, Rylie Berger walked away with the Miss Star Prairie title. She's the daughter of Rob and Patty Berger.

Little Miss is Anna Hams, daughter of Robin and Tadd Hams. The Little Miss is chosen through a random drawing.

Junior Miss is Michelle Powers, daughter of Allen and Sue Powers.

Second princesses are Eden Burke, daughter of Cathy and Eric Burke, and Tayler Parfitt, daughter of Deborah Parfitt and Scott Parfitt.

First Princess is Lila Newville, daughter of Julie and Dean Newville.

A total of six judges are invovled in the process of picking Miss Star Prairie. Girls are scored on specific categories, including poise, comfort and community service. They also speak at a banquet where they are further judged. The Lions and Queens Committee don't have any input in the results of the pageant.
